CO-GRAND MARSHALLS OF WAA 2017 CONVOY

February is the month when we celebrate “love” on Valentines Day!   So it seems appropriate to share our December experience with the WAA 2017 Convoy.   We have participated in hundreds of events over the past 50 years of our marriage, but none as meaningful as our 10- day journey from Harrington, ME to Arlington National Cemetery.  Love was evident from the start!  All of the people surrounding WAA and the convoy were warm and welcoming, the Worchester Family, Gold Star Families, Drivers, Truckers, Patriot Guard, Police Escort… and of course the thousands of people who lined the streets with their flags flying, cheering us on!

The many stops along the way at schools, veterans organizations, police and fire stations were also overflowing with love and good wishes.  The children were the ones who really made us smile with their songs and enthusiasm!   When we arrived at the gate to ANC there were more than 70,000 volunteers waiting to help place the wreaths on the headstones… many bringing their children along.  It was an awesome and overwhelming experience to watch each wreath being placed with such love and to “cover” the more than 250,000 graves at ANC in less than 3 hours!

We came home with hearts overflowing with love and gratefulness to the people who make this happen every year at ANC and ALL the other cemeteries across our country who participate in WAA!  This is truly a far-reaching project that touches millions of lives and we are “all in” with WAA.  Thank you for Remembering our Fallen… no greater love has a person than to lay down their life for their country…  thank you for Honoring our Veterans…  who loved our country enough to serve and protect her… and thank you for Teaching the next generation to be proud Americans who love and stand up for our flag and our country!
